Website vs Android app vs iOS app: what should you build first?

A practical product choice for founders with a budget and a deadline—when a website is enough, and when Android or iOS is the right first build.

Start with what the customer must do this week

Founders often ask for an app on day one. I ask what the customer must do in week one. If they need to read, enquire, or pay once, a website ships faster and is easier to share as a link.

An Android or iOS app is the better first build when the product needs the camera, offline access, push alerts, or a daily habit. Then the store listing is part of the product, not a brochure.

A path that avoids building twice

A common path: launch a focused website or web app, prove the flow, then wrap the same API in native shells when you have real usage. That avoids paying twice for screens that will change.

Bring the constraint that matters most—budget, launch date, or a must-have device feature. The Let’s Connect form lists Android app and iOS app as project types so that conversation starts with the right scope.
